Crumpled into an abnormal form, a piece of paper transforms into a complex three-dimensional entity. Colors subtly change throughout the form. The nuances follow, to reveal, to conceal, to merge and to part. Under a microscopic view, its dignity and importance are magnified.
In a commercialized society, individuals find themselves surrounded by manipulated imageries that are standardized and overwhelming. Gradually every individual becomes visually numb. It is getting harder and harder to excite or stimulate people. I believe in simplicity, so I search for the simple and ignored objects to provide visual pleasure and spiritual relaxation.
Paper is a product of human civilization and one of the most trivial things in life. I find it omnipresent yet it is willing to adapt without losing itself. It is ambiguous, but it can also be as certain as a piece of steel. These qualities make it a beautiful object that I greatly enjoy.
It is easy to forget the small things around us in this hectic world. Maybe we do not need to look so hard to find something pleasing. I hope beauty in the mundane can refresh people’s vision, like a stimulus, reminding people of another approach and attitude toward life.
